Sistem booting yang seragam dimulai sejak 11 Januari 1996. Beberapa perubahan sepakat membuat sebuah standart BIOS dalam "BIOS Boot Specification". Sampai saat ini, standart yang menjadi sistem operasi untuk sistem (bootsrap loader) tersebut masih duigunakan untuk mengatur sistem operasi tersebut.

Bila sistem operasi senantiasa ditawarkan dengan fitur2 baru, BIOS masih tetap seperti dahulu. Kondisi tersebut memang disengaja. Menurut sumber CHIP, produsen tidak ingin menawawarkan fitur yang aneh-aneh di BIOS karena tidak jarang hal tersebut menimbulkan kerusakan.
MASA DEPAN BERAGAM:
EFI-BIOS terbaru mendukung natif 64 bit dan memiliki interface grafis. Namun sampai saat ini, jarang sekali pc yang dilenmgkapi dengan EFI karena tidak compitable terhadap motherboard yang ada. Hanya apple yang menggunakan BIOS seperti ini dari awal 2006.

Introduction
iPhone 4 launch day came and went and Number Four has taken over. Today, as the dust settles, we hope to move away from the hype and take a clear-headed look at what’s new in the iOS4. No, this isn’t a full-featured iPhone 4 review, nor is it intended to introduce you to the OS basics.

Instead we’ll stick to the new stuff. And Apple promised lots of that: multitasking, homescreen wallpapers, a revamped email app, and more. Here is our brief scoop on all the new stuff and all that’s still missing.

* No smart dialing (but Spotlight is a somewhat of a substitute)
* No DivX or XviD video support and no official third-party application to play that
* The whole iPhone is too dependent on iTunes - you cannot add the same type of content (video, photos, apps) to the phone from two computers, a regular file management interface would have been much better
With the iPhone it’s never about what the phone can or cannot do. The iOS 4 however seems finally determined to catch up with most of the today’s smartphones. You’re not to expect miracles though – such as a file browser, USB mass storage mode, web Flash support, and other stuff that seems irrelevant to Apple.
Anyway, we’ve tested iOS 4 on both an iPhone 3GS and a 3G. It’s worth noting that a lot of the new features aren’t available on the now discontinued iPhone 3G. Worse yet, the iOS 4 is heartbreakingly slow on the 3G. We somehow feel though that the average iPhone user is way more likely to go straight to Number Four than bother install the latest OS on an older device. Or at least that’s what Apple would prefer.
Anyway, it’s time to start our iOS 4 tour.

Apple sells 1.7 million iPhone 4s in just three days
Mind blown! If you had to guess how many iPhone 4s would Apple manage to push in three days, you wouldn't guess 1.7 million would you? And you'd be wrong, because that's exactly how many they sold.
We wrote about iPhone 4 shortages, but when we're talking about 1.7 million units sold in just three days, it's perhaps more appropriate to call it "overwhelming, I can't believe it's true demand" rather than "shortage".
By the way, starting tomorrow, AT&T stores should be able to offer walk-in sales - they couldn't do that so far, because of said overwhelming demand.
Even Apple is impressed, quoth Steve Jobs - "This is the most successful product launch in Apple's history". No, really? The iPhone 3G and the 3GS sold "just" 1 million in three days, so yes, we'd say the iPhone 4 sales are doing pretty good.
Mr. Jobs also apologizes "to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply". No mention of all those customers crying foul over the poor reception. They were told to stay tuned even though there was no problem (aside from users holding it wrong that is). Makes sense, right?
Ah, well. We guess the problems reported by the first people to get an iPhone 4 didn't scare the crowd away. Plus, there are already rumors of a 4.01 update to iOS that will solve the reception issues in software.

It comes in the exact same two versions and costs just as much as the iPhone 4 (remember it's the luxury materials you are paying for here, not the functionality).
The iPhone 3GS collection will be available as early as next month, while the iPhone 4 will hit the shelves in a shiny Gresso outfit in December.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 gets a firmware update
hold your horses - the XPERIA X10 migration to Eclair 2.1 hasn't begun yet. However Sony Ericsson released a major firmware update for their Android flagship improving its performance and stability.
So while you won't be getting much in terms of new features, there are very good reasons to accept the Over-the-air update, pushed to your XPERIA X10. Network data connection and Wi-Fi will both do the trick of downloading it, depending on your preferences.
Sony Ericsson didn't get into much detail about the reach of the update, but the camera UI and the messaging department are among the lucky applications to feel the difference. Speed and responsiveness should be better all over the interface though.
In addition the XPERIA X10 gets a free backup and restore application so it will be much easier to save your settings and information. Selected markets will also be blessed with PlayNow client with premium apps and games (Sony Ericsson doesn't mention if downloading any of them will be free though).
The update is now available for some and will be gradually rolled out across the world in the following weeks so don't get too discouraged if you haven't been prompted to upgrade just yet. Just hang on and you will get it eventually.

AMD Divulges Phenom II X6 Secrets, Turbo Core Enabled
Last month Intel introduced its first desktop 6-core CPU, the 32nm Gulftown Core i7 980X. Running at 3.33GHz we loved the fact that it’s quite possibly the first Extreme Edition part that is able to justify its price. For $999 you get six cores and better performance all in the same power envelope as the current high end quad-core i7s.
The 980X is a great chip, but spending $999 on a single component in your PC is a tough sell for most folks. Luckily, AMD is coming out with its own 6-core processors codenamed Thuban. Below is what we know so far about AMD's Thuban lineup (note, the information in the table was not provided by AMD):

Officially branded the Phenom II X6, AMD won’t be launching these processors until some time in the future. But today AMD is disclosing some basic details about the parts. We’re also mixing in our knowledge of internal AMD roadmaps to paint a clear picture of AMD’s 6-core strategy.
The more cores at the same TDP feature that Intel delivers with the 980X, AMD is also promising with Phenom II X6. The difference is that these are still 45nm parts. While we’ll have to test them to be sure, AMD currently indicates that the entire Phenom II X6 lineup will be rated at 95W or 125W TDPs. It’s all manufacturing tricks that make it possible (good job GlobalFoundries). In theory you should be able to buy a Phenom II X6 and have it operate in the same power envelope as a Phenom II X4 965.
With the Thuban cores AMD is introducing its version of Intel’s Turbo Boost technology called Turbo Core. AMD has yet to implement power gating on its processors, so Turbo Core works a little differently than Intel’s Turbo.
Turbo Core kicks in when 3 or more cores (on a 6-core part) are idle. When this happens, the frequency of those three cores is reduced to 800MHz, the voltage to the entire chip is increased, and the remaining three cores are turboed up by as much as 500MHz. It doesn’t get any more granular than this. If you have 3 or more cores idle, then the remaining turbo up. In any other situation the CPU runs at its normal clocks.
The CPU handles all monitoring and does the clock/voltage management itself. The switch to turbo up cores apparently happens fast enough to deal with Windows moving threads around from core to core.
Turbo core is triggered by a deterministic system that is based on load demand and current operating conditions (not temperature).
Cool’n’Quiet is active throughout the turbo process. What actually happens is that when CnQ looks to see if a set of cores should be downclocked, it also has the ability to increase the frequency of other cores.
This isn’t nearly as elegant of a solution as Intel’s turbo. The idle cores are never actually shut off, and voltage to all cores is increased to reach the higher clock speed. However if it works as advertised with no drawbacks (e.g. underclocking 3 cores when you actually still need them) then it’s definitely better than nothing for the Phenom II lineup. AMD will also have quad-core CPUs with turbo core support based on the new Thuban cores.
The great news? All Socket-AM3 and AM2+ motherboards will work with these new Phenom II X6 CPUs with nothing more than a BIOS update. The boards do have to support the TDPs the chips are rated for of course.
Pricing and performance are both unknowns at this point. We’ll keep you posted!

NUSA DUA, BALI, KOMPAS.com — Setelah mencoba menunggangi Yamaha Xeon dengan jarak 30 kilometer dari Nusa Dua ke Tuban, Bali, kesan yang diperoleh Kompas.com adalah skutik ini lincah dan agresif. Kemampuan agresif diperoleh dari mesin baru, 125 cc empat langkah, 2 katup, SOHC, berpendingin cairan, terasa bertenaga di jalanan Nusa Dua yang sedikit berliku dan menanjak. Ketika gas dibetot, Xeon berakselerasi cukup mantap.
Beberapa kali skutik ini digeber hingga kecepatan 100 km per jam dengan mulus. Perpindahan gigi yang nyaris tak terasa membuktikan kinerja V-belt transmisi yang mulus dan mantap.
Skutik bermanuver dengan lincah saat diajak beraksi di tikungan dan menghindari lubang-lubang, serta mudah dikendalikan. Posisi duduk pengendara cukup nyaman dan tidak membuat badan lelah selama dikendarai.
Hanya kenyamanan dari peredam kejut atau sokbreker belakang yang terasa kurang mantap. Bantingannya agak keras! Kondisi itu sangat terasa ketika meluncur di permukaan jalan yang tidak rata. Direktur Utama PT. Bakrie Connectivity Erik Meijer mengatakan bahwa melalui AHA, pihaknya ingin menyediakan akses internet yang cepat dan pengalaman berinternet yang terintegrasi. “Kami memiliki visi bahwa komunikasi dapat berperan dalam meningkatkan kualitas hidup.
